Britax Booster Seat

Booster seats, like the Britax booster seat, are just that, seats that give a child a boost to make them as high as an adult using the belt restraint system that fits adults.

On a short child, a normal belt would come across their neck and may cause even decapitation if the force of an accident were immense enough. That’s why we have a Britax booster seat for children who are too big to still be using their toddler seats, yet too small to use the adult restraint system.

Also, if the lap belt were against your child's tummy instead of their lap, which it would be without a booster seat, that child would suffer spleen, liver, or stomach damage in a crash.

If instead it rests against a child’s neck, rather than across the chest, the child itself may possibly move it under their arm, where the child would suffer cracked ribs and perhaps damage the internal organs.

Worse yet, if put behind that child’s back, then there would be absolutely no protection to the spine, neck and head. This is why those in the children’s car seat business, like the Britax booster seat makers, construct those booster seats.

Unfortunately, lifesavers like the Britax booster seat had not been invented yet when we were growing up. It is truly unfortunate that although there is a marked decline in injuries and deaths because of seat belts and the use of car seats, as there are more cars taking to the road, there are more crashes each year. Auto crashes are still the basis for the most deaths of children over the age of 3.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration now advocates the use of backward facing infant seats, then toddler’s seats until they are either 4 years old, they weigh 40 or more pounds, or they have outgrown the toddler seat so that their shoulders are elevated more than the top available set of harness-strap slots that are found in the car seat's back.

Further, they admonish keeping a child in the toddler seat until they totally outgrow it. Then of course, they need to be moved to a booster seat like the Britax booster seat.

You see, booster seats are arranged in such a way that the lap belt can lie low and fit snugly across your child’s upper thighs. Then the shoulder belt should be allowed to cross the central point of your child’s chest and hold the shoulder back.

Booster seats must in no way be utilized with a lap-only belt, but rather it needs to be used in combination with a lap and shoulder belt. No matter how small the car-trip is, one never knows when one may have an accident and surely your child’s safety is foremost in your views, and not saving a few moments to not put your child correctly in a Britax booster seat.
